Questions about embedding LinkedIn, answered
40 direct answers: what LinkedIn supports, how widgets work, and what to expect for updates, privacy, speed and SEO.
Embedding LinkedIn on a website
- What can you embed from LinkedIn without a third-party tool?Single public posts, using “Embed this post” on desktop: text posts, articles, images, videos, live videos and document posts. LinkedIn also documents a Follow Company plugin and a Share plugin, and offers a profile badge until December 12, 2026. There's no native embed for a feed of latest posts, a company page card, recommendations or certifications.
- Can you embed a LinkedIn article on your website?Yes, in most cases. LinkedIn's help center lists articles among the content members can embed, using “Embed this post” from the More menu on desktop, as long as the content is shared publicly. If the option isn't offered, link to the article instead. Because you own your original content, you can also republish the full text on your own site.
- Can you embed a LinkedIn video on your website?Yes. LinkedIn lets you embed public video posts, including live videos, with “Embed this post” on desktop. For videos there's an extra “Embed video only” option that leaves out the post text. The post must be shared with Anyone, and if the author deletes it, LinkedIn deletes the embed too.
- Can you embed a LinkedIn document or carousel post?Yes for document posts, which is how many LinkedIn “carousels” are made: a PDF or slide file uploaded to a post. LinkedIn's help center lists document posts as embeddable with “Embed this post” when they're shared with Anyone. Multi-photo posts are different, and LinkedIn says it doesn't offer embedding for them.
- Can you embed LinkedIn posts in an email or newsletter? Not as a live embed. LinkedIn's embed code is an iframe and website widgets use JavaScript, and email programs generally don't run scripts or display iframes reliably. Instead, add an image of the post, link it to the post on LinkedIn, and put a short quote and a clear call to action in the email text.
- Is it legal to embed LinkedIn posts on a website?Generally yes for your own public posts. LinkedIn provides “Embed this post” for public content, and its User Agreement says you own your original content. Other people's posts are different: LinkedIn's terms tell members not to copy or distribute others' content without permission. This isn't legal advice; for specific cases, check with a lawyer.
- Do I need permission to embed someone else's LinkedIn post? It's safest to ask. LinkedIn offers “Embed this post” for any public post, but its User Agreement tells members not to copy or distribute other people's posts without permission, except through LinkedIn's sharing features. Whether a given use is covered is a legal question, and featuring someone's words in your marketing is best done with their consent.
- How do I add a LinkedIn icon or follow button to my website? For a simple link, place LinkedIn's [in] logo or a text link pointing to your profile or company page URL; LinkedIn's brand guidelines allow the logo as a hyperlink. For a company Follow button, LinkedIn's developer docs provide a Follow Company plugin snippet that uses your company ID. Profile badges end after December 12, 2026.
- How do I add LinkedIn to my website?Pick the option that matches your goal: a LinkedIn icon or link to send visitors to your profile or page, LinkedIn's “Embed this post” for one public post, the Follow Company plugin for a follow button, or a widget for content that stays current, such as your latest posts, a profile card or open jobs.
- Should I use the script or the iframe embed code for my LinkedIn widget?Use the script snippet whenever your website builder allows JavaScript: it loads the widget and resizes it to fit its content automatically. Use the iframe snippet only where scripts are stripped or blocked. The iframe needs no JavaScript but has a fixed height, 640 pixels by default, so you adjust the height yourself.
How LinkedIn works
- Can I use the LinkedIn API to show my posts on my website?Only in limited cases. Reading company page posts needs LinkedIn's Community Management API, which is open only to registered organizations for commercial use after a review, and the person connecting must be a page admin. Reading a personal profile's posts needs the r_member_social permission, which LinkedIn says is closed to new requests.
- Are LinkedIn profile badges still available? Not for much longer. LinkedIn's help center says the Public Profile Badge feature will no longer be available after December 12, 2026. Until then you can still create one from your public profile settings. If a badge is on your website, plan a replacement now: a profile link, a LinkedIn icon or a profile widget.
- How do I make my LinkedIn posts public?Choose “Anyone” under “Who can see your post?” before you publish. On desktop, click Start a post, open the dropdown by your name and select Anyone. LinkedIn saves that choice as your default for next time. You can't change a post's visibility after sharing it, so a connections-only post has to be posted again.
- How do I find my LinkedIn company page URL?Search for the company on LinkedIn, click Companies at the top of the results and open the right organization. The address in your browser is the company page URL, usually linkedin.com/company/company-name. Page super admins can change the name part from Edit page, but not more than once in a 30-day period.
- How do I find and customize my LinkedIn profile URL?On desktop, click Me, open your profile and look under Public profile & URL on the right. Click the edit icon there to change the last part of the URL. It can be 3–100 characters with no spaces, symbols or the word LinkedIn, and LinkedIn lets you change it up to five times within six months.
- What's the difference between LinkedIn recommendations and endorsements?A recommendation is a written testimonial that a 1st-degree connection writes about working with you, and you decide whether to show it. An endorsement is a quick validation of a skill listed on your profile, also from a 1st-degree connection. LinkedIn treats them as separate features, and recommendations carry far more detail.
- Can you embed a LinkedIn group on your website? Not as a live feed. Most LinkedIn groups are private: in listed and unlisted private groups, posts are visible only to members, so they can't appear on a website. Public groups let anyone view posts, but LinkedIn's help center doesn't describe a way to embed a group's feed. Link to the group and share highlights publicly instead.
LinkedInEmbed widgets
- What is a LinkedIn widget?A LinkedIn widget is an embeddable block that shows LinkedIn content on your website, such as your latest posts, a profile card or a company page card, and keeps it updated. You create it from a public LinkedIn URL, style it, and paste one snippet of code into your site. LinkedIn's own embed covers one post at a time.
- How often do LinkedIn widgets update?LinkedInEmbed widgets refresh automatically on a schedule set by your plan: every 96 hours on Free, every 24 hours on Pro and every 30 minutes on Essentials. A refresh runs when someone views the widget after that interval has passed. Design changes you save in the dashboard show on your site as soon as you save them.
- Do I need a LinkedIn API key to embed my posts? No. With LinkedInEmbed you paste the public URL of a LinkedIn profile or company page, and the widget is built from publicly available information. There's no API key, developer app, access token or LinkedIn login to set up, and nothing to renew. You'd only need LinkedIn's API if you were building your own integration.
- Can one LinkedIn feed show posts from several profiles? No. Each LinkedInEmbed widget is built from one LinkedIn source, a single profile or company page, so one feed can't merge posts from several profiles. Create a widget for each profile or page and place them side by side on your site. Each profile or page you connect counts as one source: Free includes 1, Pro 2 and Essentials 5.
- Can I hide reposts in my LinkedIn feed widget?Yes. In a LinkedInEmbed posts widget, turn off “Include reposts” and the feed shows only posts the profile or company page published itself. Turn it on to also show posts you reposted. The setting works the same for personal profiles and company pages, and the change goes live on your site as soon as you save.
- What happens on my website if I edit or delete a LinkedIn post? With a LinkedInEmbed widget, edits and deletions on LinkedIn show on your site after the next refresh: within 96 hours on Free, 24 hours on Pro and 30 minutes on Essentials. Deleted posts, and posts no longer public, drop out of the widget. With LinkedIn's own embed, LinkedIn says the embed is deleted when the author deletes the post.
- What happens to my LinkedIn widget if I change my profile?Changes to your public LinkedIn profile, such as a new headline, photo, job, skill, certification or recommendation, show in your widget after the next refresh: within 96 hours on Free, 24 hours on Pro or 30 minutes on Essentials. Sections you hide from your public profile stop appearing. You don't need to change the embed code.
- How many posts can a LinkedIn widget show?A LinkedInEmbed posts feed shows up to 30 of the latest posts from one LinkedIn profile or company page. You choose how many, and lay them out in 1 to 4 cards per row. In Selected posts mode, on Pro and Essentials, you hand-pick up to 4 specific posts instead of showing the latest ones.
- Can I match a LinkedIn widget to my brand fonts and colors?Yes. In LinkedInEmbed you can set a light or dark theme, any accent color, a font, corner radius, shadow, border, card background, width and alignment, plus cards per row and text length, and show or hide individual elements. A live preview shows each change before you save. You choose from built-in fonts rather than uploading your own.
- Does the LinkedIn widget support dark mode?Yes. Every LinkedInEmbed widget has a light and a dark theme, and you can pair either with any accent color. The theme is a fixed choice per widget rather than following each visitor's system setting, so pick the one that matches the section the widget sits in. Sites that switch themes can use two widgets.
- Can I put the same LinkedIn widget on several pages or websites?Yes. A LinkedInEmbed widget's code can be pasted on as many pages and websites as you like, and every copy shows the same content and design. Changes you save in the dashboard apply everywhere at once. If you want different designs or post counts on different pages, create separate widgets from the same LinkedIn source.
- Can I show LinkedIn posts by hashtag or mentions on my website? Not with LinkedInEmbed: its feeds come from one LinkedIn profile or company page, not from hashtags or posts that mention you. LinkedIn's own embed works one public post at a time, so you can embed individual posts that tag you, ideally with the author's permission. Some multi-network tools list hashtag or mention sources on paid plans.
Troubleshooting
- Why is “Embed this post” missing on LinkedIn?Usually because the post can't be embedded. LinkedIn only offers “Embed this post” on desktop, and only for posts shared with Anyone. Posts limited to connections or a group, multi-photo posts and reposts with commentary don't get the option. Check the post's visibility, switch to a desktop browser, or embed the original post instead of a repost.
- Why does my LinkedIn post embed show a blank box?A blank LinkedIn embed usually means the post is no longer available, for example deleted or not public, or that something blocked LinkedIn's iframe: a privacy extension, strict browser tracking protection, a cookie-consent tool, a Content Security Policy, or a site builder that changed the code. Check the post on LinkedIn first, then test your page in a private window.
- Why is my LinkedIn widget showing old posts? Most often the widget hasn't reached its next refresh yet. LinkedInEmbed fetches new LinkedIn data when the widget is viewed after your plan's interval: 96 hours on Free, 24 hours on Pro, 30 minutes on Essentials. Other causes are a cached copy of your web page, a new post that isn't public, reposts turned off, or Selected posts mode.
Privacy, speed and SEO
- Do LinkedIn posts show up in Google search? They can. LinkedIn says it may let search tools crawl and display certain content, such as posts shared with Anyone, plus parts of public profiles depending on your settings. Posts limited to connections or a group aren't public. Whether and when Google shows a particular post is up to Google, not LinkedIn or you.
- Can a LinkedIn widget show private profiles or connections-only posts? No. LinkedInEmbed only shows information that's publicly available on LinkedIn. Posts shared with Connections only or with a group, and profile sections you've hidden from your public profile, can't appear in a widget. To show a post, it has to be shared with Anyone, and the profile sections you want must be visible on your public profile.
- Does a LinkedIn widget slow down my website? Not noticeably. LinkedInEmbed's loader script is a few kilobytes and loads asynchronously, the widget renders in a lightweight iframe that doesn't block the rest of your page, and images are served from a cache. The biggest factor you control is how much you show: fewer posts and less media mean less to download.
- Do embedded LinkedIn posts help SEO?Mostly indirectly. Embedded LinkedIn posts and widgets load in an iframe, so search engines generally credit the post text to the embed's source, not your page. The benefit comes from what visitors see: fresh activity, social proof and reasons to stay and trust you. For rankings, your own page copy, headings and links still do the work.
- Does LinkedInEmbed need my LinkedIn password? No. LinkedInEmbed never asks for your LinkedIn password, a LinkedIn login or access to your LinkedIn account. You sign up with your email, Google or Apple, then paste the public URL of a profile or company page. Only publicly available information is shown, and nothing is ever posted to LinkedIn for you.
- Does a LinkedIn widget use cookies or track visitors?LinkedInEmbed widgets don't set cookies or use fingerprinting, and Google Analytics isn't loaded inside them. The only data recorded is aggregated daily counts of widget views and clicks. LinkedIn's own embeds and plugins are a different matter: they load from linkedin.com, and LinkedIn's Cookie Policy covers them.
Plans and pricing
- Is there a free LinkedIn feed widget?Yes. LinkedInEmbed's Free plan costs $0, needs no credit card and includes one widget of any type, including the posts feed, for one LinkedIn profile or company page. It refreshes every 96 hours and shows a small “Powered by LinkedInEmbed” link. LinkedIn's own “Embed this post” is also free, but covers one post at a time.
- How much does a LinkedIn feed widget cost?It depends on the tool and plan. LinkedInEmbed has a free plan for one widget, Pro at $12.99 a month and Essentials at $29.99 a month, with 15% off when you pay yearly. Among other tools we checked on October 23, 2026, the lowest paid plans ranged from $24 a year to $54–$59 a month.
