Do LinkedIn posts show up in Google search?
Short answer
They can. LinkedIn says it may let search tools crawl and display certain content, such as posts shared with Anyone, plus parts of public profiles depending on your settings. Posts limited to connections or a group aren't public. Whether and when Google shows a particular post is up to Google, not LinkedIn or you.
What can appear in search results
LinkedIn's help center also mentions AI tools: it says search tools such as Google, Bing or ChatGPT may show public posts in results or include them in AI-generated summaries. The User Agreement says the same in legal terms: for posts shared with Anyone, LinkedIn may make them available off LinkedIn and enable search tools to make that public content findable.
| Content | Can search tools show it? |
|---|---|
| Posts shared with Anyone | Yes, LinkedIn may allow search tools to crawl and display them |
| Posts shared with Connections only or a Group | No, they aren't public |
| Your public profile | The sections you've made visible on your public profile |
| Articles you published | Off LinkedIn only if your public profile and its Articles & Activity section are set to show |
How to control it
- Per post: choose the audience before you publish. LinkedIn doesn't let you change it afterwards. See how to make LinkedIn posts public.
- Per profile: on desktop, click Me → View Profile → the edit icon next to Public profile & URL. Turn “Your profile's public visibility” off, or switch off individual sections. Changes save automatically.
- Expect a delay: LinkedIn says search tools can take several weeks or months to notice changes, and it doesn't control that refresh.
LinkedIn warns that turning off your public profile could make account recovery harder if you lose access to your email, because it may ask for your public profile URL.
LinkedIn posts in Google vs on your website
A public post can rank on linkedin.com, but showing that post on your website doesn't make the text count as your page's content. Embeds and widgets load in iframes, so search engines generally credit the text to the embed's source. If you want a post to help your own site rank, turn it into a blog article in your own words; LinkedIn's User Agreement confirms you own your original content. Public posts that rank on LinkedIn can still send people your way. Add your website to your LinkedIn profile or page, and link to relevant pages in your posts, so someone who finds a post through search has a path to your site.
