Can a LinkedIn widget show private profiles or connections-only posts?
Short answer
No. LinkedInEmbed only shows information that's publicly available on LinkedIn. Posts shared with Connections only or with a group, and profile sections you've hidden from your public profile, can't appear in a widget. To show a post, it has to be shared with Anyone, and the profile sections you want must be visible on your public profile.
What counts as public on LinkedIn
LinkedIn describes the public profile as a simplified version of your profile that may be visible to people who aren't signed in and to search tools. Even when it's public, LinkedIn may ask non-members to sign in to see parts of it.
| Content | Public when… |
|---|---|
| A post | Its visibility was set to Anyone when it was shared |
| Your profile | “Your profile's public visibility” is on in your public profile settings |
| A profile section | That section's toggle is on in your public profile settings |
| A company page | The page and its posts are visible to anyone; widgets show only that public content |
Why widgets stick to public content
LinkedInEmbed works from the public URL you paste. It never asks for your LinkedIn login, so it has no access to anything you've limited to your network, and it respects the visibility choices you and other members make on LinkedIn.
That matters for other people in your content too. Colleagues who wrote you recommendations, or customers whose posts you reposted, made their own visibility choices on LinkedIn, and a widget only shows what's already public. Company pages work the same way: a widget shows what anyone can see on the page, with no admin access involved.
How to make something appear
- 1
Check while signed out
Open your profile or the post in a private browser window. If you can't see it there, a widget can't either.
- 2
Posts: share publicly
LinkedIn doesn't let you change a post's visibility after sharing, so share it again with Anyone selected. See how to make LinkedIn posts public.
- 3
Profile: check your toggles
On desktop, click Me → View Profile → the edit icon next to Public profile & URL, and turn on the sections you want shown. Changes save automatically.
- 4
Wait for the refresh
The widget picks up the change at its next refresh: within 96 hours on Free, 24 hours on Pro or 30 minutes on Essentials.
It works the other way too: if you make a post or section private later, it drops out of the widget after the next refresh.
