Does LinkedInEmbed need my LinkedIn password?

Short answer

No. LinkedInEmbed never asks for your LinkedIn password, a LinkedIn login or access to your LinkedIn account. You sign up with your email, Google or Apple, then paste the public URL of a profile or company page. Only publicly available information is shown, and nothing is ever posted to LinkedIn for you.

What you give LinkedInEmbed

The only LinkedIn information involved is what anyone could already see on the public profile or company page you choose. You can create a widget for your own profile or page without logging in to LinkedIn at all.

An email, Google or Apple sign-in for your LinkedInEmbed accountYour LinkedIn password
The public URL of a profile or company pageAccess to your LinkedIn account or page admin rights

What that means in practice

  • LinkedInEmbed can't post, comment, message or connect on your behalf.
  • It can't see your messages, connections-only posts or anything else that isn't public.
  • If you change your LinkedIn password or enable extra sign-in security, your widgets keep working, because they never used your login.
  • Company pages work without admin access, so a marketer or agency can set up a company widget without page roles.
  • Nothing a widget does affects LinkedIn: your profile, page and posts stay exactly as they are, whether or not a widget shows them.

A good rule for any LinkedIn tool

Be wary of any website tool that asks for your LinkedIn password. Legitimate integrations either use public information, as LinkedInEmbed does, or LinkedIn's official sign-in, where you approve specific permissions on LinkedIn's own site and can revoke them later. Typing your password into a third-party form gives that service full control of your account. If you've already done that with another tool, change your LinkedIn password. LinkedIn's own sign-in happens on linkedin.com, so check the address bar before you enter your password anywhere.

Your LinkedInEmbed account

You sign in to LinkedInEmbed with an email address, Google or Apple, completely separately from LinkedIn. Your widgets, their design settings and the LinkedIn profiles or pages you've added live in that account.

Working with an agency or a web designer? They can create a widget from your public URL in their own LinkedInEmbed account and add the embed code to your site, and nobody has to share LinkedIn credentials. See the agencies use case.
