LinkedIn feed API or website widget?
Quick answer
There are three ways to show LinkedIn content on a website: LinkedIn's native embed for single public posts, LinkedIn's official APIs (which need an approved developer app and permissions), or a no-code widget that shows a live feed from a public profile or company page URL. For most websites, a widget or the native embed is enough.
The three options
| Native post embed | LinkedIn API | No-code widget | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shows | One public post | Whatever your approved permissions allow | Latest posts, profile, company page, jobs |
| Setup | Copy and paste | Developer app, review and code | Paste a URL and a snippet |
| Updates automatically | No | Yes, if you build it | Yes |
| Maintenance | None | Tokens, API changes, hosting | Handled by the provider |
| Cost | Free | Developer time | Free plan to paid plans |
What to know about the LinkedIn API
LinkedIn's APIs require you to create a developer app, and access to most data, including organization posts, depends on products and permissions LinkedIn must approve. Access tokens expire and need refreshing, and you build and host the display yourself.
The API route makes sense when you're building a product that deeply integrates with LinkedIn. For showing posts on a marketing site, it's usually more work than the result needs.
Don't scrape LinkedIn yourself or share your LinkedIn password with any tool. LinkedEmbed never asks for your LinkedIn login.
Which should you choose?
- You want to feature one specific post: use LinkedIn's native embed. See how to embed a single LinkedIn post.
- You want your website to show your latest posts or a branded profile or company card: use a widget. See how to embed a LinkedIn feed.
- You're building an app that reads or publishes LinkedIn data for users: apply for the relevant LinkedIn API products.
