How do I find and customize my LinkedIn profile URL?

Short answer

On desktop, click Me, open your profile and look under Public profile & URL on the right. Click the edit icon there to change the last part of the URL. It can be 3–100 characters with no spaces, symbols or the word LinkedIn, and LinkedIn lets you change it up to five times within six months.

Where to find your profile URL

DeviceSteps
DesktopClick the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage, click your profile card, and find the URL under Public profile & URL in the right pane.
Mobile appTap your profile photo, tap your profile card, tap the More icon next to Add section, tap Contact info, and find the URL under Your Profile.
Mobile browserTap your profile photo, scroll to the Contact section, and find the URL under LinkedIn.

LinkedIn says the URL won't appear if you don't have a public profile. Members in some countries get a URL that starts with a two-letter country code; old links keep working if that changes.

How to customize it

  1. 1

    Open your profile

Click the Me icon, then View Profile.

  2. 2

    Edit the URL

Click the edit icon next to Public profile & URL on the right, then edit the last part of your custom URL.

  3. 3

    Save

Click Save. The same screen also shows the URL LinkedIn assigned when you created your profile.

LinkedIn's rules for custom URLs

  • 3 to 100 characters, with no spaces, symbols, special characters or the word LinkedIn.
  • Not case-sensitive, and assigned first come, first served. You can have one custom URL at a time.
  • You can change it up to five times within six months; after the fifth change, you have to wait six months.
  • Your previous URL stays linked to you for six months unless you unlink it. An unlinked URL can be claimed by someone else after seven days.

Where to use your profile URL

Put it in your email signature, resume and website, and use it to create widgets: with LinkedInEmbed you paste the URL to build a profile card, a posts feed, or a recommendations widget. Pick a URL you're happy to keep, because every link and tool that uses it depends on it. See what happens to my widget if I change my profile.

A short URL based on your name is easier to read on a business card, slide or email signature. Because the custom part isn't case-sensitive, you can capitalize words for readability when you print it, and the link still works.
