How LinkedIn worksBy the LinkedInEmbed team · Updated
Are LinkedIn profile badges still available?
Short answer
Not for much longer. LinkedIn's help center says the Public Profile Badge feature will no longer be available after December 12, 2026. Until then you can still create one from your public profile settings. If a badge is on your website, plan a replacement now: a profile link, a LinkedIn icon or a profile widget.
What the LinkedIn profile badge is
The public profile badge is a small “View profile” button or card that you could add to an online resume, blog or website. LinkedIn generated the code for you: on your public profile settings page, you clicked “Create a public profile badge” at the bottom of the right rail, picked a style and copied the snippet into your site.
The badge has always been a fixed LinkedIn design with little room for styling, and it only covered your personal profile, not company pages or posts.
What to do before December 12, 2026
- 1
Find every page with the badge
Check your homepage, about page, resume page, blog sidebar and footer, and any site template that includes the badge code LinkedIn gave you.
- 2
Choose a replacement
Pick one of the options in the table below. A plain link to your profile URL is the quickest; a widget shows the most.
- 3
Swap the code and test
Remove the badge snippet, add the replacement and check the live page on desktop and mobile. LinkedIn's article doesn't say what old badge code will display after the cut-off, so don't leave it in place.
Replacement options
Which one to pick depends on what the badge was doing. If it was simply a way for visitors to find you on LinkedIn, a text link or icon in your header or footer does the same job with no third-party code. If it sat on an about or resume page as a quick introduction, a profile card gives visitors more to go on, such as your current role, skills and experience, without leaving your site. Whatever you choose, make sure your public profile is turned on; otherwise people who aren't signed in to LinkedIn may not be able to see it.
| Option | What visitors see | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Text link | “View my LinkedIn profile” linking to your profile URL | A minute. See how to find your profile URL |
| LinkedIn [in] icon | LinkedIn's logo linking to your profile, within LinkedIn's brand rules | A few minutes. See adding a LinkedIn icon or button |
| Profile widget | Photo, headline, current role, skills and experience, styled to your site, with a link to your profile | Paste your profile URL and one snippet; free plan available |
LinkedIn's brand guidelines allow the [in] logo as a hyperlink to your LinkedIn profile, but not modified or combined with other logos or words. Job seekers and freelancers may also like the job seekers use case.
