Does the LinkedIn widget support dark mode?
Short answer
Yes. Every LinkedInEmbed widget has a light and a dark theme, and you can pair either with any accent color. The theme is a fixed choice per widget rather than following each visitor's system setting, so pick the one that matches the section the widget sits in. Sites that switch themes can use two widgets.
How to switch a widget to dark
- 1
Open the widget
In the dashboard, open the widget's design settings.
- 2
Choose Dark
Set Theme to Dark. The live preview switches straight away.
- 3
Check contrast
Pick an accent color that stands out on a dark background, preview it, then save. The change goes live wherever the widget is embedded.
Tips for dark websites and sections
- Use a lighter tint of your brand color as the accent if your usual color is dark; links and buttons need to be readable.
- Try a transparent card background so the widget sits directly on your section's color.
- Lower the shadow or add a subtle border: shadows are hard to see on dark backgrounds.
- Preview on dark backgrounds before saving, then check the published page on a phone.
Sites with a light/dark toggle
Because a widget's theme is fixed, a site that switches between light and dark has two choices. The simple one is to place the widget in a section whose background stays the same in both modes. The other, for developers, is to create a light and a dark widget from the same LinkedIn source and show one or the other with your site's own CSS, for example a prefers-color-scheme media query or your theme class.
Two widgets from one source count as one LinkedIn source but two widgets, so that approach needs Pro (3 widgets) or Essentials (5 widgets). See pricing and can I match the widget to my brand?
Contrast and accessibility
Dark designs need extra care with contrast. Text and links should stand out clearly from the card, and color shouldn't be the only thing that marks a link or button. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines ask for a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal-size text, so test your accent color against the dark card with a contrast checker.
The theme doesn't change the images inside posts, so posts with bright white graphics still look bright on a dark page. If most of your posts use light images, a light widget on a dark page can look more deliberate than a dark one.
