Why is “Embed this post” missing on LinkedIn?

Short answer

Usually because the post can't be embedded. LinkedIn only offers “Embed this post” on desktop, and only for posts shared with Anyone. Posts limited to connections or a group, multi-photo posts and reposts with commentary don't get the option. Check the post's visibility, switch to a desktop browser, or embed the original post instead of a repost.

Reasons and fixes

ReasonHow to tellWhat to do
You're on the mobile appThe option is missing from the post menu on your phoneOpen the post in a desktop browser. LinkedIn says embedding is desktop only.
The post isn't publicIt was shared with Connections only or with a group, so signed-out visitors can't open itVisibility can't be changed after posting. The author has to share it again with Anyone selected.
It's a multi-photo postSeveral images in one postLinkedIn doesn't offer embedding for these. Link to the post or share the images in a new post.
It's a repost with commentarySomeone's comment above another person's postEmbed the original post instead, if it's public.
The post was deletedThe link shows an errorNothing to embed. If it was already embedded, LinkedIn deletes the embed too.

Where the option normally is

  1. 1

    Open the post on desktop

Find the post in your feed or open its link in a desktop browser.

  2. 2

    Open the More menu

Click the More (…) icon in the upper-right corner of the post and choose “Embed this post”.

  3. 3

    Pick a format and copy

Choose “Embed with less text” or “Embed full post” (videos also offer “Embed video only”), then click Copy code.

LinkedIn controls this menu, so wording can change. The LinkedIn embed code generator can build embed code from a post link and checks that the post can be embedded.

If the post still can't be embedded

  • Link to it: a short quote on your page plus a “Read on LinkedIn” link works everywhere.
  • Ask the author to repost it publicly, if it's someone else's post. See do you need permission to embed someone else's post?
  • For your own content, set future posts to Anyone so they can be embedded or shown in a feed widget. Widgets also only show public posts.
  • Only the author can share a post again with different visibility, so for a colleague's post, ask them rather than looking for a setting on your side.
  • Featuring several posts? LinkedIn needs one embed code per post. On paid plans, LinkedInEmbed's Selected posts mode shows up to 4 public posts in one grid: see embed specific LinkedIn posts.
