LinkedIn newsletter
Also called: LinkedIn Newsletters, newsletter edition
Definition
A LinkedIn newsletter is a recurring series of articles that a member or Page publishes under one name. Members subscribe, and each new edition triggers push, in-app and email notifications to every subscriber.
How it works
Each edition is written in the article editor. When you publish, you choose whether the piece goes out as a standalone article or as an edition of your newsletter. You pick a publishing frequency when you set the newsletter up, and you can publish an unlimited number of editions.
Any LinkedIn member can subscribe. When someone starts following you or your Page, LinkedIn invites them to subscribe too, and a Page's followers are invited after its first edition is published.
Who can start one
Newsletters aren't switched on for everyone. If you have access, a Create newsletter option appears when you write an article. LinkedIn's help center lists the criteria it evaluates for Pages:
- More than 150 followers and/or connections.
- A record of recently sharing original content, such as posts or articles.
- A good standing record for the Page and its admins.
A Page newsletter must be created by a super admin or content admin of that Page, and LinkedIn allows up to five newsletters as yourself or as a Page.
LinkedIn newsletter vs your own email list
Many people run both: the LinkedIn newsletter to reach readers who are already on LinkedIn, and an email list, promoted from their website, that stays theirs if their LinkedIn reach changes. LinkedIn embeds and widgets don't work inside email, a limit explained in can you embed LinkedIn posts in an email?
| LinkedIn newsletter | Your own email newsletter | |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribers | LinkedIn members | Anyone who signs up |
| Where it's read | On LinkedIn, with notifications | In the inbox |
| Design | LinkedIn's article layout | Whatever your email tool supports |
| Growth | Invites go to your followers | Your own sign-up forms |
