LinkedIn article
Also called: LinkedIn Pulse article, Write article, LinkedIn long-form post
Definition
A LinkedIn article is a long-form piece written in LinkedIn's article editor, with a title, a cover image and formatted body text. Members and Page admins can publish articles, and they appear in the author's Activity section alongside their posts.
Article vs post
Both formats appear in the Activity section of your profile. An article also has its own page with a title and URL, which makes it easier to link to months later than a post that has long scrolled out of the feed.
| Post | Article | |
|---|---|---|
| Started from | Start a post in the share box | Write article in the share box (desktop; not in the mobile app) |
| Shape | Short text with optional media | Title, cover image, headings and long body text |
| Search settings | None | Custom article URL, SEO title and SEO description |
| Can become a newsletter edition | No | Yes |
Publishing options worth knowing
- Publish as yourself, or as a Page where you're a super admin or content admin.
- Schedule the article for later with the clock icon before publishing.
- Add commentary that introduces the article to your network when it goes out.
- Turn comments off on a published article if you don't want discussion there.
- Share a draft for feedback; reviewers must be signed in to LinkedIn to read it.
- Edit or delete the article at any time after publishing.
When an article is the better format
Choose an article when the idea needs structure: a how-to with steps, an analysis with sections, or an opinion piece that cites sources. For a quick observation, a link or a single image, a post is lighter and easier to read in the feed.
If the piece is central to your business, think about where its permanent home should be. Whether to embed an article, link to it or republish it on your own site is covered in can you embed a LinkedIn article?
