LinkedIn Projects section

Also called: LinkedIn projects, projects on LinkedIn profile

Definition

The Projects section is an optional part of a LinkedIn profile where you describe specific pieces of work, such as a product launch, research study or client engagement, with a name, dates, a description, related skills and supporting links or media.

Projects vs Experience vs Featured

One job in Experience can include several projects, and one project can span more than one job, so the two sections complement rather than repeat each other.

SectionAnswersExample
ExperienceWhere did you work and in what role?Product designer, Acme, 2022–present
ProjectsWhat specific work did you deliver?Redesigned checkout flow, 2024
FeaturedWhat should visitors look at first?A case study link or a popular post

Adding a project

Click Add profile section and look under Recommended, where Projects sits next to Featured and Licenses & certifications. LinkedIn's help center notes that the Project URL field isn't available for newly added projects; to link to the work, use Add media and choose Add a link.

Projects also suit work that doesn't fit neatly under a job title: a side project, a volunteer effort with a clear result or a course capstone.

Writing entries that hold up

  • Name the project the way a client or colleague would recognize it, not with an internal code name.
  • Open the description with the outcome, then explain your part in it.
  • Add dates, even approximate ones; undated work is hard to place.
  • Attach the evidence: a live site, a report, a demo video or a write-up.
  • Name the client organization only where you're allowed to.
  • Leave out confidential client details; your profile can be seen by more people than the project team.

From LinkedIn to a portfolio

Well-kept project entries double as portfolio content. LinkedInEmbed's projects widget turns them into cards on your own site, so you update a project once on LinkedIn instead of in two places.

LinkedIn Featured section
The Featured section is a part of a LinkedIn profile where a member pins hand-picked items near the top: posts they wrote, articles they published on LinkedIn, and external links, documents or images. It works as a curated showcase rather than a timeline.
Open to Work
Open to Work is a LinkedIn profile setting that tells recruiters, or all members, that you're looking for a job. You list the roles, locations and start date you want, and sharing with all members adds an #OpenToWork frame to your profile photo.
